Uno dei pezzi forti del viaggio è sicuramente la gita a Zaanse Schans, un museo dei mulini a vento sul grande fiume Zaan.
Un’oasi di tranquillità dove potrete visitare una serie di autentici mulini raccolti nelle zone limitrofe ad Amsterdam e ricostruiti in questo delizioso villaggio.
Camminate ed annusate l’aria: dal momento in cui scendete dal treno e attraversando il ponte sullo Zaan percepirete un aroma coinvolgente di cioccolato, dato dalla presenza di un grande e storica fabbrica che lavora il cacao e una serie di negozi e chioschi che lo vendono sotto varie forme a prezzi non troppo convenienti
[ma il prodotto è comunque di qualità molto elevata].
L’aspetto poetico di questa piccola gita a poca distanza dal centro abitato è proprio il fatto che sia slow. Ci si può soffermare ed allenare gli occhi alle immense distese della campagna, entrare nel mulino dove viene lavorato il latte da cui nascono formaggi (il famosissimo Gouda) dal sapore sublime ed imparare la lavorazione mentre si assaggiano le diverse varietà, sfilarsi le scarpe e provare gli zoccoli di legno. E dopo aver passeggiato ed osservato e dopo essersi meravigliati e stupiti, ci si può distendere su un verde praticello improvvisando un pic nic mentre le paperelle sguazzano nel canale e si rimane incantati di fronte alle ninfee ed al gioco di riflessi degli alberi nello specchio d’acqua.
Come raggiungere Zaanse Schans: Alla Centraal Station prendete il treno in direzione Alkmaar (o Uitgeest) e scendete alla stazione di Koog-Zaandijk (€2,90 ed impiega circa 17/20 minuti, 4 partenze l’ora), poi camminate per circa 1 km e mezzo sul ponte Julianabrug che attraversa il fiume fino al villaggio di Zaanse Schans.

Walk and sniff the air!!From the moment you get off the train and crossing the bridge over the Zaan river you will perceive an addictive aroma of chocolate, due to the presence of a big and historical factory working cocoa and a numer of shops and kiosks that sell it in various forms and the prices are not so cheap [but the product is very high quality].
The poetic aspect of this short trip not far from the town is the fact that it’s slow. You can stop and train the eyes to the vast expanses of the countryside, entering the mill in which milk is tranformed into delicious cheese (the famous Gouda) and learn the whole process while you taste the different varieties, slip off your shoes and try the tipical wooden ones. And after walking and looking with wonder and amazement, you can lie on a green meadow improvising a picnic while ducks splashing in the canal, amazed by water lilies and by the reflection of the trees in the water mirror.
